Buck Taylor is the son of
“Sidekick” Actor Dub Taylor. Buck may not be a “SideKick” but since he is
following Dads Career choice I have given Him a spot.
It's been over 25 years since Gunsmoke; TV's legendary Western ended a
20-season network run. Yet Buck Taylor, who played gunsmith Newly O'Brien
for eight years (1967-75), is still regularly recognized. Taylor, a
still-working character actor, most recently starred along side such stars
as Julia Roberts and George Strait in Grand Champion. The premiere was held
at the Paramount Theater in Austin, TX. All proceeds benefited the Austin
Children's Museum.
Taylor has starred in over 38 films including some of his most recent,
Tombstone, Gettysburg, Wild Wild West, Jericho, and Screen Door Jesus.
He doesn't mind the nostalgia he inspires. In fact, he banks on it. Taylor
paints Western scenes, working primarily in watercolors; he creates
paintings that reflect both the romance and the reality of the American
west. His work is shown nationwide and he is the official poster artist for
the Fort Worth Stock Show, Fort Worth Texas, Pendleton, AQHA and AQHA
Congress. He currently is working on a portrait of Jim Arness.
Taylor thought so highly of Gunsmoke star James Arness, who played Marshall
Matt Dillon, that he named his second son Matthew. Taylor and wife Goldie, a
rodeo star who works as a flight attendant, live on a ranch north of Fort
Worth, Texas. They met in 1995 at a quarter-horse show, where his paintings
were being shown, and married after a three-month courtship. "She's been a
great influence on my life," he says. "This is just the best time of my
life." Buck Taylor's website can be found at:
